amputee driving

When I first signed onto this list, I was an able gardener. "Able" was a
temporary state it turned out. I am awaiting a prosthesis for my right leg
(large blood clot necessitated amputation), and now I'm worried about
re-learning to drive with my left foot. We presently have two standard
shift cars, and realize we'll have to get an automatic shift replacement.
Are you required to take drivers' training? Was it difficult to re-learn?
What problems arose that I might not expect? Thanks, Margaret L.
