Tsuh,

I keep my Gardenia outside, in full sun (after acclimating in spring), and
squirrels do not bother it (knock on the wood, I didn't even think about
that possibility). It blooms all summer and fall. Then, before we get 30F
I bring it in. It sits on the floor, right next to my plant stand.
Evidently there is enough light from the stand because last winter it
actually set new buds and
they opened. This fall, it started also yellowing leaves, maybe 10 -15 of
them and that was it! Still have some buds from outside, and they do not
yellow.
I'm thinking that my coffee grounds and tea-bags do her good.

I wonder, do you know Ruth Stout? Did you read her books? She gives a
recipe how to grow Gardenia. She says it is easy:
1. Keep her standing in water
2. Never use any fertilizer except her own fallen leaves and flowers
3. Keep ouside in full sun

So, I kind of follow her instructions except for coffee and tea, but I
figure
that is not fertilizer, but parts of plants so it should be OK.

Have a happy and healthy New Year, everybody!

Barbara
