Dear Jenny and Nancy:
My two Mitriostigma asxillare grew quickly. In the fall of 1996
they came from Loggees in 2 1/2 inch pots and now reside in eight inch
pots and probably need to go into the next size. They were only
repotted when the roots came through the bottom of the pot.
The potting soil was amended to make a coniferous mix: small orchid
bark and peat along with polymers, ironite and an encapsulated
fertilizer. Polymers because I'm a negligent waterier and ironite
because my water is alkaline. Today the leaves appear yellowish so it's
time to readjust its pH. You have to keep plants that bloom all the
time happy.
They're in my sun room and bloom continually. The sun room is a
finished room in my house with a allot of windows and skylights. It's
not supposed to go below fifty at night but I suspect that with the
amount of windows it may have some cooler moments. The room does have
more of a west orientation but doesn't get too hot in the summer because
of the ceiling fans and ridge skylights that open.
Best, Vicki
