Hi, Ranjit - just as the plants were hard to come by, so information
obviously isn't so easy to come by, either.
The problem with both these tropical plants is that they are
greenhouse/conservatory plants outside of southern climates because they
need full sunlight to grow well.
The leaf drop and black tips may be caused by problems brought on by
overwatering or poorly drained soil. Plants that aren't actively growing
aren't drawing water from the soil, either, so it's easy to overwater.
Check for root rot. If the cause of the root rot is Phytophthora fungus,
then there may not be much you can do for your plants except to give them a
decent burial. Be sure to discard or disinfect any containers and
surrounding area. If water drains into a common container that other
plants sit in, too, you'll want to disinfect that thoroughly to make sure
the fungus doesn't spread to other plants.
I ran across a Web site the other day that you might enjoy, although they
don't ship to Canada, unfortunately -
http://www.bhatia-nurseries.com/
This New York-based nursery specializes in fragrant and ornamental plants
from the Indian subcontinent.
Cheers!
