Sheila,
Don't give up on your purple oxalis..It has probably just gone dormant. Dig
it out of the garbage can or compost heap or whatever, and just let it sit
in the soil til spring. Then water and it should come back. They can also
be dug up and stored in moist sawdust or vermiculite til spring..
