Freesia bulbs

A year ago, I planted about ten freesia bulbs in a pot and put it outside in
a sunny location keeping it watered all summer. Nothing grew. In the fall I
brought the pot indoors planning to empty it out to use for something else.
In October, the freesias started to grow so I moved them to a south window.
They bloomed beautifully all winter. This spring when the blooms stopped, I
eased back on the watering and let the leaves die off. They have rested for
a couple of months.

All the books say to plant outside in the early spring and lift them for a
rest in the winter, but that didn't work last year. Should I try again now,
or wait till September and try to start them off for winter bloom again?
Does it matter how long they are dormant? They are wonderful to have indoors
in winter. Any tips? What conditions do they need to trigger growth?
