I have a friend who called me in distress last night. He purchased a few
plants not long ago and most of them are surprisingly doing well with the
exception of the large Areca Palm. (This is the same friend whom I gave an
Aloe plant to and it died because the last time it was watered was Christmas
when I was over and watered it for him.) Anyway, he is trying to make a
sincere go of taking care of his plants and he needs some advice.
I have not seen the plant but here is the information I was able to gather
from him. The Areca Palm is a large floor plant and is sitting in a west
facing window. He has been watering it every few days. There do not appear to
be any bugs or spots on the fronds or holes in the leaves. The plant is
turning both yellow and brown all over the plant not concentrated on any one
part away from the window or near the window.
I found a mention of the Areca Palm in one of my plant books and it mentioned
the need for high humidity. I suggested purchasing a spray bottle as an
immediate solution.
Any other information regarding the care of this plant or solutions as to why
it may be turning yellow and brown would be greatly appreciated. I don't want
his first sincere attempt at plant care to be a miserable one and cause him
to give up.
Thanks
Christine :^)
