my weird Amaryllis

I bought a pre-potted Amaryllis bulb the Christmas before last.
It bloomed, albeit rather sparesly--perhaps not enough light. I
put it outside, in the shade because it burned in the sun, and
continued to water and feed as per instructions. The leaves never
went down last Winter, so I never brought it into the house. Now
to my amazement it is blooming like crazy--two stalks, with 4 flowers
each, and tons of leaves. What's the deal???
