Dear Jeannie & others interested.
Three years ago, I got Ipomoea batatas blackie (the purple sweet
potato ornamental plant) and grew it as a hanging pot plant in the
greenhouse. During the winter, it died & I threw it out. Got another one
a year later & when it, too, died down in the winter, kept it and kept on
watering it. This spring, it came out of yes, dormancy and is thriving,
along with Ipomoea batatas tricolor in a hanging pot on my front porch so
if they do seem to die down in the winter, keep moist & they will wake up
next spring for you. I also have another ornamental sweet potato, two-tone
green & yellow narrow leaves, three of them in a hanging pot & a nicer
hanging pot plant, you couldn't expect. Hope this helps. Judy Showers
