here in Florida on the Gulf we plant banana trees for fAst growth. I must
have 15 of them in various positions in my yard. They grow huge, but they
also die back quickly; it seems they forever have dead leaves hanging off
them. My yard guy has cut a couple of them right back to the ground in order
to give them a chance to start up again and, sure enough, new growth is
charging out of the ground so yes, banana trees do regrow from their base.
I have never tried to grow them inside but here in my yard my trees are in
both partially shaded and full sun locations. So I think they can manage
both....but I do believe it is imperative they have high humidity and a
rather sandy soil in which to grow. And room!
