Update, and a leaf problem

I played around with all of the suggestions I received after posting my
initial cat-eating-the-houseplants query. What worked best for me was a
spritz of water on the leaves, then a dusting of cayenne pepper. Cats
wouldn't touch 'em, and no harm to the plants. Just fyi.
Now, a question. The undersides of a couple leaves on my Homalomena have
been oozing little droplets of a sticky, clear substance from pinprick-sized
pale spots (which, btw, you can see on the surface of the leaf). Only two
leaves, out of 26. I don't see any bugs. Does anyone recognize this as a
pest of some kind?
And no, I didn't put cayenne pepper on this one! :)
Thanks,
Heather
