Hi claire,
I'm pondering whether it would or wouldn't be a good idea to move
your cutting. I suppose it will be all right, because you have a greater
chance of it rotting (esp. in NY where it's much more humid than NM) if you
left it in the soil. The biggest problem you might face is now it's getting
cooler and plants are going dormant. I've heard that some (not all!)
plumerias refuse to root until well into the summer months. Not to worry if
yours doesn't root and you notice rot just slice the stem and let it callus
and then stick it in the perlite. Funny I had a stem of my plumeria sitting
in the closet for about 2 months and I think i could've still rooted it! I
think it's in the west indies they believe that plumeria symbolized
resurrection (because you can leave a branch alone for so long and still get
it to grow).
