Hi Pauline,
I also have a couple of xmas cactus, I love the flowers. I also have about a
dozen or so of the Epiphyllums. They are so pretty when they bloom, but they
are so big, when they aren't in bloom they are not much to look at, Right
now mine are in desperate need to be worked with, because when I 1st got them
I wasn't sure what kind of media to put them in, and what I choice was too
heavy. I think I am going to transplant them into Growcoir and some Isolite
rocks. That will be good drainage for them and I know they will be much
happier. I just transplanted a lot of my orchids into the Isolite and they
seem to be doing ok. I just need to figure out when they need a drink as the
Isolite holds the water better than what I thought because I have just rotted
one of my favorite hoyas, the rocks look dry on top, but down below they are
still moist, I have to try to get use to the pot and how heavy it is after a
drink and how heavy it is when it needs a drink. What kind of mix do you grow
your xmas cactus in? And what do you use for a fertilizer? I am going to be
getting a few new species of hoyas to add to my collection next week, one of
them is the one I just overwatered, this time I am going to be more careful
and really try to figure these rocks out. Its just like christmas waiting for
them to get here. I ordered some crosses which are really kind of scarce
because the hoyas I am told are hard to pollinate. I will let you all know
when they arrive. Will chat later, right now my hoyas are calling for some
attention. Mustn't keep them waiting.
