Re: OT & Wind Troubles

Here's what I did. I cut a batch of 1x2's four feet long and pointed
them into stakes. Hammered 1-3 stakes, 6-8 inches from the main
canes of the most troubled roses. Then wrapped hand-spun wool yarn
and baling twine, stabilizing them about the stakes. Whew, that's
better.

I did note that these were all old roses, none were English. (I have
no HT) I had lightly trimmed everyone 3-4 times threw out the summer
(my favorite job) to encourage them to become bushy and not too tall
for their first year here. Worst affected was Autumn Damask,
followed by found rose "Pink Yankton", Mme. Plantier, Mrs. William
Paul, and Ispahan. Hopefully by next fall they will have a stronger
root system and have less "fear" of wind.

Thank-you for all your helpful ideas.

Sincerely,
