Re: new biological antidote for powdery mildew

Joanie,

<<
Hiya, Philip...long time no talk! Do Transparents (apples) qualify as
antique? Had one in last house that was delish and bore in
August...tart/sweet simultaneously and very juicy. My German Shepherds
loved
them too! Wanted to graft some but the strict timing element disuaded me.

I'm no expert on apples, but my guess is that your apple was
Yellow Transparent:

"Russia, Introduced to USA in 1870.
Well-known early summer apple, good for drying, freezing, sauce,
juice and wine. Good for pies when green. Transparent pale yellow skin.
Crisp, light-textured, juicy flesh. Very sweet flavour. Process
immediately because it will not store long. Scab resistant."

There was a very fine article in Kitchen Garden
last month about grafting apples.
I hope to do some grafts before bud break this year.

Basically take your cuttings in feb and store them
until early spring, then do your grafting. Keep it
sealed until it takes - then take off the rubber bands
and there you have it. (i hope it is that simple.)

What were your timing snafus? Related to moving or
the actual grafting procedure?
