YES, it really was a perfect (nearly hot) day for an Heirloom (not Heritage)
Old Garden Roses trip. I was there today too, Elle. With my three tall
teen (1 girl, 2 boys) children, from about 12-3. I wonder if we crossed
paths. I had a camera, notebook and nose in the roses and hardly noticed a
soul. :-P
It was wonderful in lush blooms. First time I've see it this early in the
season. The old roses are fast becoming my favorites as I love the their
delightful shrubs and leaves. I'm especially fond of the albas. I hear that
the once bloomers are quickly going out of style. Yip, most were not in the
green house. I bought 'Mme.Legras de St.Germain' a white alba and 'White
Blush' a huge lovely hybrid alba. Still wondering were I will put them.
I also picked up 'Jeane Lajoie' for a fellow garden club-er. She asked me
to get something for a box with a built-on trellis. This rose is a climbing
mini and perfect for just that. I was just at a garden tour Friday and saw
this rose up-close. Excellent delicate climber, no fragrance, covered in
small darling dark peach/pink, tea like blooms all season.
Sincerely,
~Carleen~
