Re: [Rose-list] Re: Finally---Blooming like mad!

I have two Bonicas. One is three feet tall, the other a foot tall. Both were
planted three years ago; don't know why one is so much slower (both get
equal treatment, a must in this politically correct society).

Before moving, I had a Bonica in a previous garden that was close to six
feet tall (it was five years old when we moved). It grew just 25 miles east
of where we live now, so growing conditions were very similar.

I love its steady production of pink blooms. I have a small shrub rose with
very light pink blossoms; I purchased it ($5) three years ago at an
end-of-season sale; it had no nametag.

Returning from Wisconsin on Wednesday, I spied a small greenhouse/nursery
operation and just had to stop. They were having a sale on everything,
including roses -- hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, climbers and
miniatures. I purchased four floribundas and two miniatures. All were in
three-gallon containers, in bloom with healthy foliage, and on sale for $6
each (half the original price). Such a deal! The nurseries in my home
territory also are having rose sales and think $12 and $13 are bargain
prices. And their roses don't look as good as those at the Wisconsin
nursery.

My one hybrid tea, Mr. Lincoln, is blooming fairly well. It is the only tea
remaining in my gardens. I have little luck with teas, so several years ago
began growing floribundas and shrub-types. They're doing wonderfully, as are
the climbers. I have not replaced the dying teas with more teas but with
floribundas and others, including a couple old roses.
