Our mild winter in Chicago has agreed with the roses. Yesterday's inspection
revealed healthy and apparently happy roses in all beds and with the 50* temps
it was a pleasure to spend time pruning them. I did notice that a couple had
what looked like mildew (powdery, white and easily wiped away) near the crowns
in the crotch of some small, twiggy branches that I was removing anyway. Has
anyone noticed this in early spring in the colder areas? We did have two
significant snow falls and the best estimate would be that they were under
this blanket for approx. 6 weeks total. Is this normal? Anything to take
further action on?
Thanks, Joanie Z.5a
