[Rose-list] Pruning Experiment

Hi Julie,

Oh wow, I had a couple of Climbing First Prize on my old house. It's
a Hybrid Tea and grew powerfully in the few years before we moved.
Very pretty and nice huge blooms. I would think twice on the ivy, or
move it farther away from the rose. What zone are you in?

In mild winters the Lady Banks Rose is evergreen. (Comes in single,
double, yellow or white.) I have a one (double white) newly growing
on the south side of this house. My sister brought it from Arizona
in early November, in mid-December we had several 10' nights, unusual
for us. I had her in the ground and the top all wrapped in newspaper
and black plastic. February I unwrapped her (when our roses begin
awakening from dormacy) and she still had some green leaves. She's
moving slow, only about 2 1/2 feet tall from the 16 inches when I
planted her. [Slow of fertilizing this year.] She should grow to 30
feet or more here. She was a well established, potted cutting from
the World's Largest Rose (in Tombstone) that covers 8,500 square
feet. Wonder if you could grow that one, you wouldn't need the ivy.

Hum... red climatis and peach-ish medium pink rose.... What color is
your house?

PS... oh darn, just found a zone map which says that most of Utah is
zone 4 or 5... doubt she would be evergreen there, doubt she would
survive as she is slightly tender in zone 7.

Sincerely,
~Carleen~
