[Rose-list] Mme. Hardy

Dear Rose gang,

I did some reading this weekend and came up with a splendid plan.
but before i run out and do it and regret it later because of some
unforeseen factor, i thought i would float it here and see what you all
thought.

to wit: i have two purple elderberries growing on the north end of my
garden. i put them in last spring so they are still small, but should
get to be 8' tall by 5' or so shrubs. so i thought, what rose from my
must-have-list would work with them - Madame Hardy. Right
now the elderberries have bluish leaves and deep green
new growth. but i think with age they will be more purple colored
with dusty rose colored panicles of flowers.
My thinking is that Mme. Hardy will roughly match the elderberry in
height, the dark leaves will set off the white flowers, and the green
eye of the rose will link the two plants together.

any cautions here i should be aware of? is anyone else combining
shrubs with shrub roses that can guide me? will i have problems
with one plant shading the other?
