I've put in three or four different types of lavendar: Dutch, English,
Hildecote, "French" (if I haven't already listed it under another
name--I get jumbled up with names)
Each year over the past four, I find myself replacing a couple that
didn't survive the winter. The scent does set off the roses nicely,
though--so does the rosemary. I hadn't thought to try mint; I think I'm
too afraid of it taking over. The chamomile seeds I broadcast over the
lawn, though, are a nice undercurrent to the roses.
My Tradescant rose from Austin has already bloomed! I find that his
descriptions are more accurate than the American dealer's: he says that
this could grow into a 6 ft. monster, which it seems destined to do;
glad I gave it plenty of space. The dealer said it's a small rose good
for the front of a bed (!!!)
