Rose theft? Is that all? Here at work, we've had daylilies dug up and
taken. A co-worker's newly planted shrubs disappeared overnight. Another
woman's plants were slowly being taken (she caught the culprit one
night...a child digging them up to please his mom). And there was an
article printed in the newspaper about thefts from "island gardens" (those
median strips separating the lanes in certain neighborhoods) and "ramp
plantings" (the off/on ramps to the expressways were planted with natives
by a county-run organization).
While I'm glad that gardening is catching on as America's best-loved
past-time, it seems like it would be a lot nicer just to ask the owner of
the plant for either a cutting or a division. You might make a new friend
in the process.
