Val -
I have to agree with you sentiments.....most of the time a fellow gardener is
happy to share.
About this time last year I was driving to meet my husband for lunch. I was
driving thru a suburban area and saw a beautiful profusion of hydrangea like
pink blooms in front of one of the homes. Well - I turned around and went to
the front door to find out what the flowers were. The resident was not home
so I left a note on the door with my name and telephone number, I addressed
it to "fellow gardener"....well she called me back that night and told me
that they were a clerodendrum and I was welcome to some in the fall. She
said it would be tough to transplant them this time of year. She told me she
would hang on to my number and call me in a few months. Well September came
and the telephone rang and it was her...true to her word she offered me the
plant that I had admired the previous spring. I quickly was at her home and
traded her a tulip ginger (her colors were pink). This spring I have a
minimum of 10 blossoms of this pink clerodendrum.
It's funny - I was expecting just one cutting...she gave me about 10 plants.
Now that you have reminded me of her I think I'm going to have to find
something pink to leave at her doorstep.
