Sacramento valley, that doesn't get very cold does it ?
My sister said they get wind storms in Tombstone too.
Yes, It's bound to cover your pump. Is it ''housed"?
The Lady Rose in Tombstone was planted near a shed. Now over 110
years later, the shed is gone. They now hold her up with posts and
strong pipe. I'm thinking of making a trellis of sorts for mine out
of pipe, against the house. This rose is thornless, and my sister
said it was growing all over buildings. Just from seeing some of her
pictures it didn't look too damaging, but I would keep my eyes on it.
They also prune it hard, in Arizona. Truck loads of greens hauled
out each year. They say they don't fertilize this huge one either.
From the pictures (sister took) the ground is just packed dirt. They
water it in the summer just once a week with a slow running hose for
12 hours.
