All of my gardening lists are a bit slow right now, with the exception of
Alpine-L, which is going into seed bank frenzy. A lot of us are busy with
desparate last minute Autumn clean-up guilt.

Rose soap? As in Crabtree & Evelyn or insecticidal soap? I've had no luck
with insecticidal soaps, such as Safer. Crabtree & Evelyn is a great place
to shop for last minute gifts, and their rose scented products are
outstanding.[I was not compensated for that endorsement, but won't turn
anything down if they'd like to express they're gratitude.]

I'm going sorta' bonkers about rose hips. My current favorite are the Rosa
moyesii's, which have flagon shaped hips that "hang", kind of. I have an
enormous wreath made of bittersweet vine that has a large paper hornet's
nest as the focal point. The rest is all thistles and thorns and rose
hips. Most people visibly balk when they see it, but I love it. Yes, the
hornets are l-o-n-g gone.

Many or the rugosa's have wonderful hip display. Some so much that the
nickname is the 'tomato rose'. Other good ones include:

Bourbon Queen

Corylus ( a current favorite of mine)

Dortmund (millions of tiny hips)

Kiftsgate

Parkdirektor Riggers

Scabrosa

I'll take a walk later (it's 31F outside!) and see how some of the others
are progressing.
