RE: Roses for Fall Planting ???

No, not fair at all, my sympathies are with you. Don't you just hate
that. Can see why you would want to be sure of your choices.

11. Autumn Damask (OGR with 8.2 rating)

I love this one, the old ones have such rich color and wonderful
fragrance and thus far mine is very disease resistant. Some fall
repeating. It is a rather large bush, that I have seen "bundled" at
the base and allowed to "umbrella" at the top, which would help
save space to about 4 feet.

> 13. Cecile Brunner (polyantha, w/8.2 rating)

Very sweet, mine is a little leggy, but darling little buds,
especially if you like the hybrid tea look. Nice fragrance and
always blooming. Small bush.

14. Veilchenblau (color is key)

This one my father carried about and gave me. I wouldn't have bought
it as I don't favor blues or lavender in roses. It does have cute
little blooms (almost an aster look about them) that cover the bush,
once blooming. Several old ones in are area are very compact, but
still large bushes of 4 to 6 feet.

Of these three, I would pick Autumn Damask. It is a large rose bush,
but love the old rose blooms, fragrance and bush. Also rather thorny.
Second choice would be Cecile Brunner-polyantha. Equally as lovely.
Either is wonderful. Haven't grown any of your others, so won't
comment on them.

Personally if I could only raise a few roses, I would pick in this
order my favorites: 1.Comte de Chambord (an old Portland rose of
pink, heavenly fragrance) 2.Graham Thomas (English of rich yellow)
3.Mme. Plantier (once blooming wonderful white with green eye and
awesome soft fragrance) 4.Autumn Damask.

You probably didn't want more on you list, but from this you may see
were my tastes run. At least for this year. :-)

Happy planting to ya.
