Hi, folks! First off, thanks to everyone on this list for helping me with
my rose bush. It's going to be a bugger getting into the middle of this
bush to finish pruning out every branch and then sealing the cuts. The
thorns on the oldest canes are ferocious looking! I've had these cane
borers before, but only on my hybrid teas which I've long since quit trying
to grow. Common sense would tell me that they would eventually attack one
of my rugosas since that's all I basically have left. I'll seal off my
cuts with green Elmer's glue; a co-worker tells me that is what she has
used with good results.
It has been a long, hot, dry summer. This incident has been disheartening
as this rugosa is my favorite and has been with me for a number of years.
It sounds as if drastic pruning is needed and I'll get on it today.
Thanks again for everyone's help. I'm going to get those nasty suckers out
of my bush! By the way, is there anyway to prevent this from happening
again?
