Well said Lynn, exactly.  Yes, rugosa are just like that.

I'm glad to hear it does well in Illinois, I was sure it would be happy most
anywhere. Albas can tolerate a bit of semi-shade too, but 'Mme. Plantier'
will get a bit of after-blooming mildew if she has too much shade. Mine is
in all day sun with some dabbled shade in late afternoon.

I'm told that 'Great Maiden's Blush' prefers some shade, my young one seems
much happier now that it's on the North side of 'Mme. Plantier'.

I will save a cutting for ya Joanie, unless you find a bigger 'Mme.Plantier'
first, as these will be a year or two before they are of any good size I
suspect.  Though raised in my new greenhouse may speed things along, I hope.
