Hi, Carleen...
Sorry to be so tardy getting back to ya, but I agree with the above
statement. I was just out looking at the rugosa 'White Pavement' and 'Alba'
and was thinking the very same thing - neither is exactly an elegant looking
plant - Lynn Barton said it well too: stiff and angular. Rats. Love the
'Alba'. Still hoping 'Blanc double de Coubert' (sp.?) will come through
though...pretty right now and planted in late June - a Grade 1 (2 year old)
plant. Bloomed almost immediately.
Loved the pic of Madame Plantier...the way you and Lynn described her gently
arching canes, I think I've just gotta give her a try. Do you know of a
source for her on her own roots and a Grade 1 plant? I wonder if she'd get to
10' in the Midwest?
I'll take ya up on the cutting, Carleen. The other one I'm smitten with is
your 'Paul Recault'...what an amazing pic you sent earlier this year. Gotta
have that one too!
I'm still grappling with the defoliating 'All That Jazz' shrub roses. I had
to resort to copper fungicide, which did stop the defoliation on 2 of the 3,
but the third just gave
up the ghost and she'sa naked lady now - her third time this summer. Very
frustrating as she's one of two anchoring the garage side panels. Gorgeous
"jazzy" colors of dark salmon with yellow overtones. Lovely, large single
blooms with pretty stamens and deep salmon in bud. Glossy lightish green
leaves...very attractive plant even when not in bloom -well, at least when
she has leaves. ;-P
Great to get all this action on the rose-list. What roses has everyone else
had good luck with this year? Our heat's been way down in the Midwest but the
humidity's been up there, causing all these fungal problems we've been
experiencing.
