The following is an extract from the NZ Cactus and Succulent Journal, No.
13, Vol. 1 of November 20, 1948:
"Wellington District ... Mr Hodges has sent out a circular letter covering
the aims and objects of a Branch Society - a very full list of all the
interesting possibilities of a local Branch. Mr and Mrs Hodges have very
kindly offered their home for the first meeting - Saturday, 4th November
[1948] at 3 pm, .... Highland Park."
In 1956 the Journal reported that this was indeed the inaugural meeting of
the Wellington Branch.
So we would ask all of our friends in New Zealand and around the world to
charge your glasses and help us celebrate the magnificent past and ongoing
future of the Branch. 3 pm on a Friday is NOT a convenient time, so we will
wait until 7 pm, but hope that wherever you are in the world you will
choose an appropriate time.
Ted and Frances Verrity, Wellington, New Zealand
