Hello to all,
Now that things have calmed down from the Holidays I wanted to introduce
myself and share some things.
I'm Dennis Barclay and live in Midlothian, Tx.(about 30 miles south of
Dallas). I have been collecting succulents for about 6 years and got the
Sansevieria bug soon after.
I've been growing from seed now for a couple of years and have acquired my
seeds from the CSSA seed depot when available. The neat thing about seeds is
the variation you get from the same set of seeds. My method is to germinate
in the spring under glass and once germinated set the pots in a zip lock bag
and set on the lower shelf of my greenhouse until the plant outgrows the bag.
Usually the plant is ready to pot up at this point and able to handle the
greenhouse conditions.
This summer I moved into a new house and I was also able to build a new
greenhouse. Unfortunately my plants were moved in a Texas August and I did not
get my greenhouse shaded in time and many plants were fried. I'll just have
to wait for the Sans. to pup and get on with things. Unfortunately the cacti
and other succulents are not as forgiving, many have scars that won't go away.
One guestion for the group. Several of my Sans. have a small brown circle
spot on the leaves. Is this a fungus and how do I eliminate it.
Hermine, I'm excited about your new book. Keep us posted on when it will be
released. I have about worn out my current edition.
Last question, What's up with Juan and the Sansevieria Journal? I miss the
opportunity to purchase the plants he was offering to fund the color photos.
Best Regards,
Dennis Barclay
