Hi Norma,
I just joined the Sanseviera list by going to the Mace's "Cactus Mall" on
the www where I found the link to the page for this list.. There I found
simple instructions to subscribe. Thanks, Norma, for telling me about the
Sanseviera list.
A short introduction: I like to grow just about everything--all kinds of
cactus and succulents plus an equal interest in gesneriads. I have
thousands of plants in pots inside the house, greenhouse and outside. I
also like to garden with perennials, subtropicals and all the other kinds of
plants that do well here in coastal Northern California. Sansevieras were
the first group that I specialized in, starting in the early 70's, when I
planted two leaves of S. trif. 'laurentii. I discovered that variegation
does not come true from leaves at that time. I became a collector when I
discovered S. cylindrica patula at a university greenhouse. I got a cutting
and started searching for the other varieties that I found in books like
"Exotica". Not much was available in those days. I bought plants from
Abbey Gardens, The Plant Shop's Botanical Garden (Reseda, Ca.) and Mobile
Gardens (New York). I still have those early plants plus mnay more that
I've added over the years. I grow my Sansevieras inside the house, which
they are rapidly taking over. Many of my plants are now in large pots with
mature growths. My 27 year old S. trifasciata sits in a dark corner in a
ten gallon pot still doing well despite near total neglect.
