Re: [SANS] A WORD BY ANY OTHER WORD

Dear John,

How about Chihuahuas, munchkins, pixies, ferengi, hobbits, Frodo, Bilbo
Baggins, Billy Barty, anything or anybody of short stature? The main point
is that some short or stunted growths are the result of growing conditions
and nutrition while others are genetic in origin and sometimes it is
difficult to tell which is which and what is the cause without further
investigation. Certain words appear to have different meanings in
horticulture or botany and trying to keep things light have just frustrated
those who prefer to be hyper-critical rather than supportive.

Around here, runts are a type of fruit flavored candy popular in vending
machines!

What is the Norm anyway besides that guy on Cheers?

I think we are all playing with words here and not making oneself clear.
We certainly need a working word here. Obviously Juvenile leaves or
growth would fit the bill as would stunted, puerile, Lilliputian or
diminutive. Stunted growth could have dual meanings as could puerile I
like Lilliputian myself but then they could also be runts, one not as
strong as the norm. So why not let's call these plants runts which I think
is very descriptive of the plants we are talking about. As anyone who has
bred animals will know, you get runts now and then but if looked after and
given some TLC they can turn into excellent adults.
