Hi everyone,
Sorry I have not got back on this but pressure of work etc.
Generally speaking leaf cuttings strike (set roots) fairly quickly
within 6 weeks but as I have mentioned before there are exceptions.
The quickest to root" FOR ME" is the float leaved types generally.
The round stems only marginally speaking longer. But surely the
question should have been not how long it takes to root a cutting
but how long before young plants appear from cuttings.
Now then 07/22/96 a friend gave me a a piece of a very large leaf
from a plant simply labelled Sansevieria sp. R852 Malawi near Monkey
Bay. A flat leafed plant similar in growth to 'Mason Congo' except
the leaf is plain dark green and a whole lot bigger . Anyway the leaf
cut rooted up in a few weeks and the leaf just sat there, and sat
there. Checked it yes still rooted and it still sat there. Well to
cut to the chase two months ago I noticed the leaf had dried up
nothing left but dry drown leaf. When I tipped it out of the pot there
was a small rhizome which looked quite turgid so rather than throw
it out it was potted up and now there is a leaf 4" long by 3" wide
with a red edge.
So the moral is never give up and certainly do not be over eager in
throwing things out.
By the way If anyone is interested the R is for Dave Richardson.
