Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I am new to the list and haven't intro'ed yet but I wanted to reply to this
thread.
We are building our boxes out of scrap lumber also.
I have found two sources.
1. tempmaster factory/ York international- the receive allot of large crates
containing the large equipment they use. These go on a burn pile. they told
us to take what we wanted, when the pile gets so high it is burned. You
might check any factories in your area and see if this is the case. We have
broken apart old pallets and they have many uses. It is not as durable as
cedar but it works great.
2. the ARC has an opportunity workshop here. Their job is to make crates
and pallets. they will sell us the scrap for $2.00 a truck load or $6.00 a
trailer load. I was using 2x 12's from this today to make boxes.
You may be able to find these type of sources in your area.
We live in MO zone 5. This is the second year we are using planting boxes.
My husband loves it now that he has seen how well they work , so we are
putting in 12 more this year. We still row plant corn.
