Re: building raised beds & filling them

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Melody -- it never hurts to try. My lumber yard is just terrific, I guess.
I just came in from watering my sfg. Part of it I have done in the lasagna
method. The potatoes look great, the peas are mostly up (and need me to put
up their fence), the climbing beans are shooting through (and also need
their fence), the Malibar Spinach has peeked through yet -- it was wonderful
last year. I have 4 tomato plants about to blossom (I planted them March
1st in a deep, deep hole under glass and filled in soil as they grew), plus
5 other tomato plants I groaned about because of threat of a light freeze 2
nites ago. The Early Sunglow CORN (GETS 2 EARS per short little stalk) I
planted according to Mel's instructions in the Feb '96 Organic Gardening
Magazine -- much closer than usual at 4 kernels to a square foot -- isn't up
yet. Have more to plant. Where does the time go! Good luck on finding
some wood to box in your beds. ... Nickie
