I have a floating row cover on one of my 4 x 10' beds that has cole
crops in it. The average last frost date is next week. It can get
pretty hot here in Virginia pretty fast but at this time of year we
typically have highs in the mid-sixties.
So my question is, how long do I leave those floating row covers on
there? I put them on because I wanted the bug protection. Last year I
didn't get a single bite of broccoli or kale or collards because of
the caterpillars. I want to actually eat some this year. But I just
read that the temperature under the floating row covers can get much,
much higher than the air temperature. And my cole crops won't like
that. So do I leave them on until harvest? Remove them at some point?
