Christine- You can use old boards and planks for walkways or those
59cents each concrete pavers. Your could even use carpet strips if you
wanted-covered with hay. You just need something to stand on to avoid
compacting the soil and to divide the squares- keep in mind- they don't have
to be exactly 1x1 squares!Work with what you have- I have one bed that is
3x7- not a typical square foot size but it was here when I moved here so I
just divide it up intosomething that works for me- usually 2 rows of 1 foot
squares and a row a foot wide for a trellis.

Do whatever works for you- when you get into your book you will see that
there's alot of different ways to do things- also - keep checking out the
website and visiting people's gardens-Don't feel that you have missed the
opportunity to Sq Ft this year because you didn't get raised boxed beds in!
Have fun- learn as you go and grow some tomatoes! You will do some things
right and mess up on other things.

Last year my plants were great, my soil was lovely, my beds were ok, the
water system was ok-had hardly any bug problems- but I didn't have enough
BEESand very few things got polinated - hence- few veggies! So this year I
have planted lots of blooming things near and in the garden to make sure
things get polinated.I am sure that something else will happen that I didn't
thinkof! I will work on correcting that thing next year-- that is the fun of
it-and it really has been fun and . You will be suprized how nice this first
garden will be- find something to make walkways with--old boards- what
ever-You and your son are gonna have a ball and now that you have the
book-DEVOUR IT!-Teri ----
