You mention in a seperate post that you will be putting (or all
ready have) a path between you and the neighbor so that
you can maintain this bed. A one foot deep bed can be
maintained from one side, you probably can reach one
foot with ease. Unless there is another reason for the
path, why waste the space, put the garden close to the lot line
and if you need a path, put it on your side, this saves some
space.
As to where to put the support, It's only one foot,
it probably won't matter, mine are about 4 inches in
from the north side, but I don't think it matters.
