I'm in Maryland, too (just inside the DC beltway in Adelphi) and have had
good success with Brandywine and Sungold. Cherokee Purple was a little
problematic for me, and though I found the flavor good, the dark,
bruised-purple color bugged me somewhat.

Early Girl I think I grew in 1994 or so, finding it not particularly flavorful.

Brandywine will take a long time to ripen for you and splits unmercifully
if there are heavy rains after a fairly dry period. If that kind of
weather prevails, quick rush out and detach any fruits that have begun to
color up at all and ripen them the rest of the way indoors. If you wait
even a few hours, you'll lose them all to skin splitting.

The flavor of Brandywine is well worth the extra trouble you have to
take. And don't be expecting a zillion fruits per vine either: it's an
heirloom, not a hybrid.

Sungold is a hybrid and tastes like candy. You'll love it.
