Hi Karen, This is a GREAT thing to do for your tools! Wiping/cleaning/protecting garden tools is a good place to recycle used motor oil. Just about any old oil will do to protect metal. If you don't change your own oil or don't want that messy stuff around the house, buy a quart of cheap motor oil. It will last forever. Use Linseed oil on wooden handles. Wipe on a thick coat a couple times each year. Please remember that oily rags can spontaneously start fires, keep them in a closed fireproof container or throw them away. tb ========================================================= I have read that one is to wipe off the blade of spades, trowels, etc. with "an oiled rag" after washing off the dirt. However, I have never seen mentioned what _kind_ of oil to use. I would like to take better care of my tools this year, so please advise. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
