They also are great in basil pesto! My dad always cracked them by putting them in a heavy paper bag and running the car over them. And my mom also used to make black walnut fudge. I know the nuts are great for baked goods - cakes, breads, candies, etc. It's just that the nuts take so much work to get into, and return just a little meat per nut. Besides, I have 5 very large trees and could supply baking nuts to the world!!
