Pruning Tomatoes?

Hello Everyone,
I have another question concerning tomatoes. I plan to have a few
tomatoe plants in my SQFT garden, but I'm afraid that they might grow too
big. Can the growth be controlled without harming the plant by pruning it.
I thought that maybe I could cut the top off when it reaches the maximum
height I want and then start to cut back the sides. Does anyone else do
this? I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks, Dot
