Jacob's Cattle Dry Bean Question

Is anybody else planting Jacob's Cattle dry beans this year? I planted mine
early (Feb) and they have already flowered and begun to form pods. My problem
is with the size of these plants. I planted 9 per sqft and they are so big
(2' in height) that they are crowding into the 8 squares around them. Some
are covered as much as 6". Could they this be happening becuase I planted
them very early in the season and they had to grow larger in order to get
more sunlight? Or is this variety normaly this large? If they are normaly
this large then I will simply plant fewer per sqft.
