Last year I kept the weeds from taking over by planting field peas under
the corn when the stalks were around 1-1/2 to 2 feet high. The peas did
very well throughout the summer under the shade of the stalks and formed a
mat which most of the weeds did not penetrate. Additionally, I turned the
field peas in at the end of the summer as a green manure.
