You probably know this, but a cheap, easy way to create a bin is with 3
foot tall chicken wire & some of those metallic fence stakes that you
hammer into the ground. Just pound in as many of those stakes you feel you
want, formed into a loose circle of whatever diameter you feel you need
(anything between 4 and 10 feet in diameter works well for me). Attach the
chicken wire to the poles. Arrange it so the very end of the chicken wire
when the circle is closed is just hooked on to the beginning at several
points, so that it is easy to unhook for access to the inside. If you have
a small tiller, like a Mantis, it's easy to mix the pile for every 6 inches
to a foot it gains in height. This way, I don't have to bother with
layering my compostables - I just try to make sure I have a good amount of
carbon materials (like last year's leaves) to mix in with the nitrogen
materials (like this year's grass clippings).
