Strawberries

Hello all:

I just wanted to make a few strawberry comments.   

If there is an archive this list caried on a fairly lively discussion a
couple of months back in this regard.

It should be noted that not all strawberries freely produce runners.   A
good nursey that specializes in small fruits such as Indiana Berry,
Nourse, Brittingham sgould be able to identify the type that do not
produce to many runners for you.   I believe Glooscap falls in this
catergory but freely admit my memory is faulty.

Alpines are another type, although not the common strawberry that do not
produce much in the way of runners if at all.  They also can be grown in
fairly shady conditions. 

In general I plant my strawberries in a shallow, one per square foot for
the larger varieties and just snip off any runners that appear.   It is a
fairlyu simple matter to tend to 4 (4x6) plots of strawberries.  The
maintenace is around 10 minutes a week.
