Yes! :) I love gardening. Gardening and eating what we grow. And
fortunately had a father who did, too. So I know what *real* tomatoes (my
favorite....a reason to garden in themselves), beans, corn, etc. taste like.
That first tomato of summer is absolutely Heaven! I love canning, and root
cellaring, etc. I like my perennial flower beds, but my "food" plants are
tops :).
This year I'm starting everything from seed; herbs, tomatoes, peppers,
peas, beans, etc. We also have a unique situation. Our house is for sale and
we will be building on 12 acres this summer (hopefully). Lots of room to
garden, but we're not out there yet....and it's getting close to when cool
season things should be planted here. So, everything that can is going into
containers that can be moved. Literally, "square foot gardening." And I've
never done container gardening before. Right now, I'm trying to figure out
how to start the container potatoes in something movable. I'm thinking a
3'x3' or 2'x2' piece of plywood, with four corner posts and chicken wire to
hold the potatoes. Just slide it all up into the truck when it's time to
move.

<<So I got this bee in my bonnet about growing *all* our own produce myself,
and
the sqft. method promised to be the best way to go about it. So while it will
probably take several years to see whether we can, in fact, supply ourselves
with vegetables year-round, >>

So have I. It won't happen this year, but I've got the plans laid out
for next year to grow everything, including wheat. We have three horses,
which help produce about the best, and fastest, compost. And I'll even have
my dream of a lean to type greenhouse attached in front of one of the
doorwalls of the walkout basement. To be able to garden year round is
something I've always wanted to do. Fresh greens in the middle of
winter....yum! And I'm excited to see how long an indeterminate tomato plant
will keep producing in a greenhouse. Now, if I could figure out how to have
fresh tomatoes all year round I think that would be a perfect life.
     So, yes, I think I'm a gardener-cook :).
