RE: Organic Corn

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I did corn last year, a "row" along my fence with staggered plants every six
inches...

like that. I had the pollen tassels before the silk was ready for it too,
but resisted the temptation to tap the stalks until I saw silk on almost
every ear. I had three plants that did not fruit, and eighteen that did. Of
the eighteen that did, 12 had full ears and the rest had from half to maybe
3/4 full ears. I was encouraged enough to do a larger amount this year.

I did 8 X 4 with one per SqFt. As usual, I did not trust the seed so I
planted two in each hole, and now I have two plants in each mound.

I am tempted to not cut the extras to see if they will grow, but I suspect
that I would need richer soil to support them. They are about a foot tall so
I probably better thin them now...

My neighbor keeps telling me that I will need to use oil to keep the worms
out of the ears, but since I haven't had worms yet...
