Re: Organic Corn
Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I plant 5 kernals of corn to a sqare, then pull out the two smallest. I
let the 3 grow up together, they pollinate each other, or I shake them over
each other. I only plant about 12 squares since I'm gardening for one.
BUT, after the corn starts producing, the squirrels and/or crows savage
them. It's very depressing to see ears of corn peeled like bananas with
an inch of corn left. (Do I cook these? Yes, I do - every little nub I
can find.) Anyway, I have tried putting bags, screens, and bottles on the
ears after pollinating them, but either the squirrels get into them or I
let them overripen.
Any ideas, or should I just start buying corn at the grocery store?
Thanks,
Neale (zone 7)
